Heart and circulatory disease causes devastation throughout the UK.

In Clwyd West 9,300 people are estimated to be living with heart and circulatory disease. 1,556 have survived a stroke, 2,993 are living with coronary heart disease, and 757 have heart failure.
Risk factors, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, increase your chances of developing heart and circulatory diseases.
In Clwyd West 12,124 people have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, 4,402 with diabetes and around 59% of adults are defined as overweight or obese.
The more risk factors you have, the more likely you are to develop heart and circulatory diseases, but the good news is that you can do something about most risk factors.
Research shows that being overweight or obese can: raise your blood cholesterol levels, increase your blood pressure and increase your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Because these are risk factors for coronary heart disease, your weight can have a big impact on your long-term health. Even if you don't have any of these conditions, it's important to keep to a healthy weight so you don't develop them in future.
If you have a family history of cardiovascular disease, you have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack, heart failure and stroke. Therefore if you have family history of cardiovascular disease, it is important that you tell your doctor or nurse as they may want to check your blood pressure and cholesterol.
If you are over 40 years of age, you can visit your doctor and ask for a heart health check to find out your risk of getting cardiovascular disease.
Meanwhile, If you're a smoker, stopping smoking is the single most important step you can take to protect the health of your heart. By quitting you’ll be improving your own health by dramatically reducing your risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and a variety of cancers.
